FAQ

We know this is a big trip for many of you (especially our US and UK-based family and friends) and we are so grateful that you will be making the journey. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions (so far) to help with your planning:

What's up with the welcome events? Is this a multi-day wedding?

The welcome events are opportunities to spend time with the bride and groom before the big day, and for those traveling from abroad, to help get settled in to Auckland after the long journey.

We understand that this won't fit everyone's work/life schedules... we would most love to see you on the big day!

You are welcome to attend any events that fit best with your travel plans or work schedule. For our travelers, if you prefer to spend the days before the wedding adventuring around New Zealand, this would also fill our hearts with joy -- our greatest wish is for you to make the most of this trip however you like (as long as you still come to the wedding lol.)

I'm planning to make this a longer trip/vacation from the US. Should we come earlier before the wedding or stay later?

Awesome! If that's your plan, we think coming ~1 week before the wedding would be great for beating jet lag and experiencing a bit of New Zealand. Beyond that, follow your heart! We'll be posting to the travel tab soon some recommendations for things to do in and around NZ/Australia beyond the wedding.

What airline should I fly (from the US)? What's the best route?

For international economy tickets: Delta is the most comfortable/best experience. United is fine and American is a bit cramped. Good non-US airlines to look for are Air New Zealand and Qantas.

For the route: the main cities that fly direct to Auckland are SF, LA, and Houston. We recommend a route that connects through one of those (from the northeast, we like connecting through Houston the most to break up the two legs of the journey.) There's also a direct flight to Auckland from JFK, but it is quite long!

When should I book things?

For flights: book whenever you can! US-->NZ tickets for Feb tend to be cheaper than other months, but the sooner the better.

For accommodation:

  • Wedding Friday/Saturday: there will be two main options (1) VRBO's on Ä€whitu -- these will start to come online ~6 months before and we'll aggregate links on the website (2) we're working on a hotel block within ~30 minutes of the venue, and we'll post that info in coming months as well. We're also working on a shuttle to help folks get to and from the venue on Saturday.
  • Welcome events Wednesday/Thursday in Auckland City: If you're planning to come to the welcome events, you could start booking those places now -- anywhere between Auckland CBD and Cornwall Park (and a bit of a radius around that) should do well.

What documents do I need?

Mainly a passport! We recommend getting that started ~6 months before Feb.

You'll also need to fill out the New Zealand electronic travel authorization, but you can do that ~1 week before you travel and there's an easy app for it.
